VMFC (Veteran/Military Friendly Congregation)
At St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral, we joyfully embrace the unique bond that military life fosters among service members, their families, and friends. We are thrilled to announce the formation of our Cathedral Circle for Military & Friends, a dynamic community dedicated to celebrating this camaraderie and nurturing lasting connections. Imagine gathering to watch "Band of Brothers," enjoying lively monthly meet-ups at local pubs, organizing carpool trips to the base commissary, or simply coming together to share stories and laughter. These fun, regular get-togethers are designed to bring our military community even closer, fostering an environment where everyone feels valued and appreciated. We deeply understand the importance of recognizing military members for their service and providing opportunities to build friendships beyond the squadron. Join us in this exciting initiative and experience the warmth, support, and joy of our St. Paul's family.
What is the VMFC?
St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral, Oklahoma City, is a designated Veteran/Military Friendly Congregation. The VMFC’s purpose is twofold. First, to provide a visible sign to those that visit the congregation that they understand, and are sympathetic to the needs of veterans and their families. Second, to provide acknowledgement to the congregation and their leaders of their sincere and earnest efforts to support veterans and their families.
Why is a Veteran/Military Friendly Congregation Needed Today?
Research consistently shows that clergy and congregation leaders, not psychologist or mental health experts, are where people first seek assistance in times of distress. Eventually, they then seek therapy from professional clinicians often with the help of their community of faith.
What is the Purpose for VMFC Programs at our Congregation?
The purpose of this programs is to keep congregation members AWARE of the military and their needs, and to use the programs to create an atmosphere of acceptance and recognition throughout the congregation.
