Dean's Message for April 24, 2025

April 23, 2025
It was a dark and stormy night. Our Lord had been crucified but had not yet risen. We were remembering the tragic loss of life from 30 years before. The ominous weather seemed appropriate somehow. I would like to say that as the night went by that the weather cleared as we kindled the fire of Easter, as Our Lord was resurrected, and as the strength of the Oklahoma standard overwhelmed the forces of evil that tried to destroy us in 1995. But it remained a dark and stormy night.
Still, on April 19, 2025, as we baptized, confirmed, received and reaffirmed almost 50 people, as we splashed past luminarias bearing the likeness of the 168 dear souls we lost, as we listened to thunder throughout the first service of our holiest season of the year, the Holy Spirit was so present at St. Paul's that you could feel it in your bones. My gratitude, to all who served and worked tirelessly to hold our 18 services during Holy Week, is boundless and everlasting. This weekend, there will be a different atmosphere at our one service, at 4:00 pm on Sunday, to accommodate the OKC Memorial Marathon, followed by a potluck supper. "May the light of Christ gloriously rising dispel the darkness of our hearts and minds."
