Holy Eucharist

Receiving Communion

Introduction
Worship at the Cathedral continues to be an expression of the worth-ship of God. God's love is worth our sincere prayer, highest praise, and most thoughtful study of sacred Word. God's faithfulness is worth the most uplifting liturgy, the brightest music and most beautiful spaces and gardens.

Take this cup, and drink Throughout the week we celebrate Holy Communion. The rites and rituals of our worship are grounded in the Episcopal Church and in accordance with the Book of Common Prayer, 1979. The rich diversity of God's children at St. Paul's is reflected in an attitude of openness to new inspiration in worship. Each Sunday at the Cathedral @ 5pm an alternative style of worship is offered, including the services of Taizé and Parish Evensong.

Types of Worship

St. Paul's Cathedral uses the Book of Common Prayer for Episcopal Church of the United States, 1979.

Rite  II - Sunday 9 o'clock service
This service has a simplicity and beauty that represents the ongoing transformation of the church's liturgy and language. One might imagine this liturgy as reflecting the sacred spirit of Upper Room fellowship where Christ gathers with his friends and all share in the peace that passes understanding.

Rite I - Sunday 8 and 11 o'clock services
This worship service has a formality and grandeur that draws inspiration from the finest historical & traditional liturgy and language. One might imagine this liturgy as reflecting sacred rites of the ancient temple worship in Jesus' time.

St. Nicholas Chapel 12:10 PM

Every Thursday, Prayer Book Holy Days and every weekday during Lent there is a service of Holy Eucharist in the St. Nicholas Chapel, which is located on the first floor of the Education Building.

Cathedral @ 5
The Cathedral @ 5 service offers an alternative worship service on certain Sunday evenings, as announced in bulletins, newsletters, and this web site.

Taizé Prayer – First Sunday of the month
This is meditative service that has roots in religious community of Taizé, France. Silence and singing are the primary vehicles of prayer and participation. A few words are chanted over and over. Holy Communion is celebrated. Gradually, like the Spirit of the Divine the sounds and silences move beyond the intellect and penetrate the heart and whole being.

Parish Evensong – Third Sunday every month
Traditional Anglican Evensong is a service in which prayers are sung to the glory of God. St. Paul's Cathedral Choir will lead the congregational service and sing an anthem, and the pipe organ is the primary instrument played. Join us as we close the day giving thanks to the Lord for today's blessings and ask for a peaceful night's rest.

Choral Evensong – Fifth Sunday
Choral Evensong is a service of Traditional Anglican Evensong that incorporates a choir concert. These fifth Sunday Choral Evensongs are not to be missed.
