Special Event - Celebration of Carol Hampton’s Ministry
April 18–20
Special events will take place 18–20 April involving the Cathedral family. The Cathedral will celebrate the long ministry of Rev. Canon Carol McDonald Hampton with a series of events during those dates.
On Friday, April 18, the Caddo Culture Club will lead Caddo dances starting about 5:30 pm. Dinner will be served about 6:30 pm. Archeology Professor George Sabo, from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville, will give a public lecture on the role of the priesthood among the ancient Caddo at 7 pm in Dean Willy Hall. The evening will conclude with more Caddo dancing in the Garden. This event is open to the public, but please let us know you are coming by calling the Cathedral Office at 235-3436.
On Saturday morning, April 19, a bus will take passengers on guided tour of Spiro Mounds Park in eastern Oklahoma. Park Curator Dennis Peterson will guide the walking tour through the Mississippian era mound site. Creek ceremonialist Ted Isham will provide insights into the contemporary uses of Mississippian symbols and beliefs. On Sunday, April 20, the Cathedral will have a Reception honoring Carol Hampton’s ministry following the 9:00 o’clock service.The cost of the bus, lunch, and snacks is $20 per person. St. Oakerhater Guild
The St. Oakerhater Guild represents the Cathedral community in its partnership with the Oakerhater Center and Whirlwind Mission of the Holy Family in Watonga, Oklahoma. The St. Oakerhater Guild offers an annual Vacation Bible School in Watonga for all children. The Guild also participates in the annual Oakerhater Honor Dance, which is held at the Oakerhater Center near the Feast Day of St. Oakerhater. At Christmas time the Guild along with the parish join in filling shoeboxes with gifts for children at the Oakerhater Center.
