"In as much as ye have done it unto one of the least of these, ye have done it unto me."

Can you imagine how it would feel if you were unable to feed your children a hot dinner or how it would be to live without electricity? There are families in Oklahoma City who live with these fears every day. The Guild of St. George tries to meet the critical needs of those who live at the edge of poverty in our community. This Episcopal outreach is a joint project of Episcopal churches in the metropolitan area. The Guild provides food, help with utility bills, bus tokens, and deposits for public housing and assists with medical prescriptions, Oklahoma identification cards and birth certificates. Since 1983 the Guild has served over 100,000 people.

Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday about 40 needy folks are lined up waiting for help at the Guild of St. George. Even though $700 is allocated each day for financial assistance in deposits, etc. some people must be turned away due the sheer number of clients. The doors open at 9:00 a.m.but many times the day's financial allocation is completely gone within an hour and a half.

Nearly every penny contributed to the Guild goes directly to those in need. In fact $.98 out of every $1.00 goes directly to client assistance. In 2006 $7,300 per month was spent helping the needy in Oklahoma City. St. Paul's Cathedral provides the space and utilities free of charge and all workers are volunteers.
